Frequently Asked Questions
What does treatment feel like?
When the device is turned on the goal is increase the intensity until you feel the sensation of a buzz or hum. This is when a person is considered to be in active treatment. The therapy should not hurt so if any discomfort is felt the electrode needs to be moved, changed or the intensity should be decreased.
How long does a treatment session last?
Each treatment is scheduled for 1 hour. The active therapy session is usually between 30-45 minutes, depending on the time it takes to find the most effective electrode placement.
How many treatment sessions are required?
Every person responds differently but on average, most people will require 10-15 treatment sessions to achieve maximum treatment benefit. We recommend continuing treatments until you have maintained maximum pain relief for 48 hours.
How long will my pain relief last once I have completed the Calmare treatment course?
Everyone is different but on average, most people experience at least 3 months of pain relief after completing their initial Calmare treatment course. After the initial therapy, you should return for Calmare booster sessions if you experience sustained increased pain over several consecutive days.
If my pain returns, how many booster sessions will I need?
Again, each person is different but on average the sooner you return for a booster treatment, the fewer sessions you will need to return your pain to remission.
Do you accept insurance?
All payments are due at or before the time of service. We do not bill directly to insurance, however we can give you the necessary paperwork required to submit a claim to your insurance provider for possible reimbursement. You can check coverage of Scrambler therapy ie: transcutaneous electrical modulation pain reprocessing (CPT code 0278T) with your insurance prior to starting treatments.
Calmare therapy is in high demand and the appointment schedule is often fully booked. Because we carefully schedule treatment sessions throughout the day, it is imperative that patients let us know if they: are unable to
- Begin the 10-treatment regime on their scheduled day and time
- Keep a pre-scheduled appointment for any of their 10 treatments
We require patients to cancel their appointments for scrambler therapy at least 48 hours in advance. Failure to notify the office of a cancelled appointment within 48 hours will result in an automatic billing of $299 for a missed appointment fee per missed session.
We do understand that emergencies can arise, however please let us know you will need to cancel an appointment as soon as possible by calling 706-688-9355.
How do I prepare for treatments?
Before scheduling we will ask you to complete New Patient Forms in advance online to make sure you are a candidate for scrambler therapy.

What should I bring to my treatment visits?

We highly recommend you take the time in therapy to rest and relax. You can download an app like Insight Timer and use your treatment time to practice a guided meditation or relaxing nature sounds. You can bring reading materials and/or electronic devices with your preferred audio books, music or movies as well. We advise you not to watch the news, check work email or scroll through social media during treatment.
Loose fitting, casual, comfortable clothing allowing access to painful areas, including flip-flops, slippers, socks
Water bottle and snacks
A journal or your phone to record photos and details about your experience and keep track of how you feel each day as therapy goes on.
What medications can interfere with Calmare therapy?
Some medications can interfere with the effectiveness of Calmare therapy. We work with your prescribing physicians to help you wean off medications if needed prior to starting therapy for at least 1 week prior to starting treatment. It is not recommended that you stop your medicines on your own. Check out the list of medications that can interfere with the effectiveness of treatment.
